Cruel Justice by M A Comley

The headless body of a wealthy widow is discovered decomposing in Chelling Forest. Then a second victim is found. Detective Inspector Lorne Simpkins and her partner, DS Pete Childs are assigned the case.

Before they can discover the identity of the killer they must make a connection between the two victims.

After a third murder, Lorne receives a grisly surprise. Clearly, a vicious serial killer is on a rampage...and Lorne has become the killer's fixation.

Lorne can't allow her failing marriage or her new boss--a man with whom she shares a sensuous secret--keep her from focusing on her job. She must catch the macabre murderer, or risk becoming the next victim.

Hard to put down. Lorne is such a relatable character. Loved reading this book. Will definitely read the next ones.

Well written book about broken people. No one in the book is really a hero without damage. There is one sex scene and sexual components to the story. The police get their murderer in the end, but it was a very unsatisfactory story. There was just to much damage in the lives of every adult in the book.
  • A great book, a real page turner!!!

This is a riveting book full of twists and turns that keeps the reader wanting more and more. Masterfully written...the author never really lets you in on the secrets of the characters until it's time!! A great book, highly recommended!!!
  • Good Plot

I read mysteries extensively, mostly by British and Scandinavian authors. They have great plots AND they are beautifully written. This was a good book in that it kept my attention. But the writing itself is just so-so and the plot itself gets a little bogged down when the author tries to throw in a romantic sideline that basically goes nowhere. If you just want a quick read and a little escape, this book is for you. I enjoyed it and will probably read another one by this author sometime in the future.

It is a decent book. The end is suppose to grab your attention I guess but to me it's senseless. I won't buy the rest of the series.

I can see how the life of a detective can challenge their home life especially when there are crazy killers running amuck! This was great! I look forward to more books to come!

Good story. Will read more by this author.
  • Not a bad first effort

A barely readable first effort... Some sappy dialogue, which mildly detracted from the story... However, even more challenging was a cast of characters who all seemed intellectually challenged... On the other hand, the author shows just enough promise that I might consider one more book, to see how her skills develop.
  • Horrible

This could have been a good story, but was horribly written. The story jumped around, big issues were not focused on enough. The characters were so annoying and impossible to relate too. I didn't finish this story.
