A Fatal Twist of Lemon by Patrice Greenwood

Cops drink coffee.

They don't belong in Ellen Rosings's Victorian tearoom. But when her opening day thank-you tea ends in the murder of the president of the Santa Fe Preservation Trust, the police invade her haven.

Enter Detective Tony Aragon: attractive and unsympathetic, with a chip on his shoulder that goes beyond the murder investigation, and Ellen's delicate bone china cup is full. Is the murderer one of her honored guests, or the ghost rumored to haunt the building? Will Ellen solve the mystery, or will the Wisteria Tearoom's premiere turn out to be its—and Ellen's—finale?

I enjoyed reading this until the climatic scene, it went downhill fast. It was pretty abrupt, and nothing the police did after this made any sense. I know enough to know the police wouldn't do any of this, so you'd think the writer would know, unless she didn't know where to go so made it easy. I was disappointed after a pretty good story till that point.

A delightful story, a great set of characters, and just the right mix of foreshadowing, intrigue, mystery, and suspense. I'd never read from this series before and was surprised and pleased that I began. I intend to acquire the rest of these tearoom books as soon as possible and regret only that there are only a handful of them. Suggest reading a sample -- you'll quickly be engaged. Enjoy!

Very well written cute story. Characters well developed throughout the story. I learned much about a tea room, and the English traditions of such, but still prefer my tea with honey. Will have to try the recipes the author was kind enough to add at the end of the book. Would have given 5 stars, but some parts of the book were too drawn out.
