The Battle of Gettysburg by Frank Aretas Haskell

The Battle of Gettysburg (local Listeni/ˈɡɛtɨsbɜrɡ/, with an /s/ sound)[6] was fought July 1–3, 1863, in and around the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania between Union and Confederate forces during the American Civil War. The battle involved the largest number of casualties of the entire war[7] and is often described as the war's turning point. [8] Union Maj. Gen. George Meade's Army of the Potomac defeated attacks by Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia, ending Lee's attempt to invade the North.

Book Reviews

  • Wow

I meant to read this book before visiting Gettysburg, but ended up reading it afterwards. The descriptions of the places and events are stunning, written by someone who was right in the thick of the action. Even after seeing the Battlefield and reading all the exhibits at the museum, I learned many new and remarkable details of the event.
  • Perfect for any reading project

This is great for a free book, heck I would pay for this. The description is great, it is almost as descriptive as Tolkien's works. This is perfect for any U.S. History book project, quick easy read to explain one of the most strategic battles ever fought.
