A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park

The New York Times bestseller A Long Walk to Water begins as two stories, told in alternating sections, about two eleven-year-olds in Sudan, a girl in 2008 and a boy in 1985. The girl, Nya, is fetching water from a pond that is two hours’ walk from her home: she makes two trips to the pond every day. The boy, Salva, becomes one of the "lost boys" of Sudan, refugees who cover the African continent on foot as they search for their families and for a safe place to stay. Enduring every hardship from loneliness to attack by armed rebels to contact with killer lions and crocodiles, Salva is a survivor, and his story goes on to intersect with Nya’s in an astonishing and moving way.

My English teacher chose this book for our class to read and man thank you for that. It’s a great book maybe not chapters 10 or 11. That made my whole class very upset. If you read it you understand. All in all no doubt 5 Stars I wish I could rate it even better. Also put yourself in one of the main characters shoes could you go through all of this or would you not make it. Also what is this book teaching us. How nature has many effects on people, love of family urges you on, or go war takes away every rule. It makes you think in an assignment I had we had to figure out the theme their were 12 we had to rate by but it was hard because this book has many different themes try and come up with one. This book is amazing.

My mom gave me this book for Christmas and I shoved it in a bag. I thought that I would never read the book. But when I was out of books to read I grabbed "A Long Walk To Water" and started reading. It was amazing to see everything that the two main characters have been through. I never knew anything about Sudan and now I do! I loved the book so much and I recommend it to other people around my age (12). Although I gave to my mom and dad and told them to read it. My dad read it and my mom is currently reading it. They both love the book so far and so do I. - READINGsoccer101

For a 100 page book this is way too expensive! Don't be scammed by these popular authors trying to get money out of you! You have been warned!
  • Awesomeness but...

This book is so great and fun, but I personally think this could have a better ending like Nya and Salva having a full conversation, or Salva going back home to see his family or something.
